Sarnie

And while we're on the subject of the Big Apple, take a look at this jaw-breaking selection of New York's 101 finest sandwiches.

Big Bird

There's a great story (especially in these lean times) up at Cheap Healthy Good, where the blogger creates 17 meals out of a single chicken. And not 1 great meal and 16 lousy ones... I'm talking 17 you'd-eat-that-for-dinner meals. Bon Appetit!

Killer Food!

Put down that hot dog! Here's Time magazine's list of the 10 Most Dangerous Foods that will ever pass your lips. It's hard to tell whether they're taking this too seriously, or not seriously at all...

Corn

I've had it for supper for the past two nights in a row... and in a perfect world I'd go for a third. Is there any meal better than the good old corn on the cob?

Hard Boiled

Great post at Whipped on how to make the perfect hard boiled egg. I enjoyed it, and you will enjoy it too. Unless, of course, you are the bizarrely angry first commenter.

Oyster

There's a tasty little story at Salon about oysters (apparently they're not all about sex)... plus a recipe I'm dying to try.

Waiting

Don't fancy being a waiter at this guy's table...

Say Cheese!

What's Your Flavour?

The latest Pictory gallery is up: this one's called Local Flavor, and it's a collection of foodie shots.

I fancy some of that Santorini calamari.

Soup

It's completely unseasonal for us Southern Hemispherers, but - in this unseasonably cold weather - it's nice to have New York magazine's list of the Best Soups in New York City. I'm going to try some of these at home when winter rolls around.

Amuse-bouche

There's a big part of me that prefers eating in to dining out – and most of that has to do with the surly waitrons we have to endure as diners. (I'm like: "Just bring me my food and leave me alone!") That's why I enjoyed reading Bruce Buschel's piece in the New York Times, where he offers his rules for waitrons... or 100 Things Restauraunt Staffers Should Never Do.

Hungry?

My "home gym" is located about five metres away from my fridge.

Crash Diet

As I spectacularly fall off my Men's Health New Man Challenge wagon, I'm getting increasingly desperate to find an eating plan to suit my unique personal needs. I reckon I may be on to something here...

Diet

This does count as proper dieting, right?

Right?!?

Chicken

There is, if you believe New York magazine (and why wouldn't you?), a craze in New York City at the moment for fried chicken. Yup, even the gourmet-est of gourmet eateries are doing the whole Colonel Sanders number.

I can see the attraction: there's a KFC across the road from my station, and some evenings - if the wind is blowing just so - when I walk across the platform I get a whiff of eleven herbs and spices. Looking at the gallery at New York magazine, and thinking about that sea breeze, has me in the mood for some artery-clogging takeouts.

Food

I'm hungry. And it doesn't help that I just found a feature at Epicurious.com, where they list their best recipes with five or fewer ingredients. Seriously, you can't go wrong with a Chunky Lemon Applesauce, which requires just three ingredients.

And I'm sure that even I cannot stuffy up Poached Eggs, where all you need is 1 teaspoon vinegar and 4 very fresh large eggs.

Go have a look at their mouth-watering list of recipes. I'll be back after lunch.
